چکیده

Abstract Source parameters calculated from displacement spectra of both P and S waves are used to discriminate between earthquakes quarry blasts in three regions Egypt during the 2009–2015 period. We use vertical component seismograms 440 450 explosions with M D 1.5 3.3 calculate source parameters, including scalar moments corner frequencies. The o (P,S) vs. f c P- S-wave frequency (P)/ (S) ratios distinguish earthquakes. A comparison for demonstrates that had significantly lower frequencies than earthquakes, particularly spectra. In contrast Northern Central regions, Southern Egyptian region provides a perfect separation S-waves. empirically derived average ratio is 1.28, 1.26 Northern, respectively. For explosions, 1.89, 1.86 2.0 According these findings, (P) higher those implying differences enhance ability approach explosions. Based on w whole Egypt, observed discrimination threshold value separating 1.51–1.52.

Short Note Spectral Discrimination between Quarry Blasts and Earthquakes in Southern California

We compare P-wave spectra of quarry blasts and earthquakes recorded by the southern California seismic network (SCSN) between 2000 and 2005, with the goal of developing methods to discriminate between these events. We process the spectra using an iterative robust least-squares method to isolate source, receiver, and propagation path contributions. This corrects for first-order attenuation struc...

SOURCE PARAMETERS OF EARTHQUAKES, AND DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN EARTHQUAKES AND NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS BY JOH~ B. DAvIEs A~D

The first part of this study describes a technique by which the source parameters of an earthquake can be obtained from the spectrum of compressional waves. The source parameters defined are fault length, fracture velocity, and fault plane attitude. Two large, deep earthquakes are examined using this technique. The source parameters determined compare favorably with those obtained previously us...

Using Delay-Fired Quarry Blasts to Image the Crust: A Comparison of Methods for Deconvolving Mixed-Delay Source Wavelets

Quarry blasts can be effective, low-cost energy sources for seismic imaging, provided that one can deconvolve the extended source signatures produced by ripple firing. This study uses real and synthetic quarry-blast data to compare the performance of several methods for deconvolving mixed-delay signals. The problem considered here is the recovery of the effective source function along a given a...

Correlations between Spectral Parameters of Earthquakes and Damage Intensity in Different RC Frames

In recent decades many researchers have studied on the damage assessment of structures after a seismic event. To assess the damage of structures under an earthquake, it is so important to study the correlations between earthquake parameters and damages of the structures. A lot of seismic parameters have been defined by researchers to characterize an earthquake. Spectral parameters of an earthqu...

Using centroid time-delays to characterize source durations and identify earthquakes with unique characteristics

The relationship between M0 and the rupture duration is often difficult to establish. This is particularly true for large earthquakes for which the moment rate functions (MRF) generally have complicated shapes, and the estimated durations can vary considerably depending on the methodology used to evaluate the MRF. In this work, we show that the centroid time-delay (τc) provides an alternative d...
